It’s been a while since I updated on here, having gone into my second year off uni I’m definitely a lot busier! I’ve been reading a lot, both for and outside of my course. Here’s a quick update of all the books I’ve read (that i can remember) since Career Of Evil:

William Burroughs – Junky, and another failed attempt at Naked Lunch
Hettie Jones- How I became Hettie Jones
Kathy Acker – Blood & Guts in High School
For FUN:
JK Rowling – Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Anne Tyler – Digging to America
Whilst I haven’t been reading as much as I would like to, 1 thing on my list makes me very happy – two new books from JK Rowling!! Both are scripts which has contributed to me gradually becoming more exposed to screenwriting for my module on it next semester, even if I find them less fun to read.
Anne Tyler’s Digging To America was also a good read. Found in a charity shop and bought because of it’s topics of life in America as an outsider and adoption, I found it to be an entertaining insight to American culture from an outsider’s perspective. I did find it a little dull in its lack of drama, but it’s realistic in its moderate conflicts.
From my uni reading I’m still in love with the beat generation, even if women are reduced to objectified housewives in nearly all male writing. Burroughs seems to be the worst in regards to this but Junky is one of my favourite reads of this semester.
As for the Christmas holidays and the new year, I’m dying to finally read American Psycho and am on the hunt for a book which merges chilling gore with Lolita’s delicate darkness. If there’s nothing perfect out there i guess I’ll have to write it myself…
